Beautiful and relatively rare Singer Featherweight 222K free arm sewing machine in top condition. Completely serviced, cleaned, polished, electrically inspected, timed, tuned and test sewn. She purrs along like a contented kitten! The sewing samples depicted are once on slightly heavier fabric and once on our Swiss mousseline fine fabric, just feeding the fabric though without any pulling or stretching. The machine weighs as little as 5 kilos and the circumference of the free arm is a narrow 18.4 cm - perfect for all "fiddly" sewing jobs and, of course, the ideal machine for the doll couturier! She sews the finest through the thickest fabric, including leather. All doll shoes shown in the Gildebrief magazines over the years were stitched on a Featherweight 222 K and I still do all my doll machine sewing only on my 222K machine.
The flatbed unit is simply pushed in place, converting it into a sewing machine like the 221K (the main difference between the 221K and the 222K is that the 222K has the free arm. You can also lower the feed dog for darning and using the ziegzag device etc, which most 221 machines do not have).
The number of the machine is: EJ623489, from around 1954The Featherweight 222K was only manufactured at the Singer manufacturing company in Kilbowie, Scotland - at the time the largest sewing machine manufacturing company in the world. Everything was produced in-house, from the smalled nut and bolt to the cast iron casing! The Featherweight was very popular and advertised as "lasting for over 100 years - and I am sure that, with a little care, she will last even longer!
The case is in very good used condition and comes with 1 key.The decals are original and hardly rubbed off.
There are fine scratches what is to be expected when a machine is that old and has been used.
There are quite a number of extra original sewing feet, needles, Singer needle threader and needles, machine oil and lubricant. original instruction manual plus I fitted an LED-sewing bulb. LED bulbs are much brighter and do not heat up as is the case with the old style sewing machine bulb.
This is a wonderful machine that will give a lot of pleasure to even the most discerning sewer!
The motor is 230-250 volt but for customers in the United States, all you need is a STEP-DOWN transformer (they can be purchased for less than $ 100 at Amazon). There are no detrimental effects when using a transformer.
This is my favorite sewing machine - and I am sure you will become a Featherweight fan in no time once you try her!
