If you have ever tried to neatly mark dark silk velvet or a slinky fabric with a dark design, you will know how difficult that can be! contrary to many demonstrations, I would like to show you here how to deal with beautiful but veery frustrating fabrics, so your sewing experience can be a good one!
Photo 1: You will need:
The fabric, STS-Paper, (Sheer Tearaway Stabilizer), Pattern piece, fine pencil, MSA 1100-Madeira-temporary spray glue
Photo 2: Lightly spray one side of the STS-Paper with MSA-1100 and press to the wrong side of the fabric (as soon as the panel is pressed, the temporary spray disappears). The fabric is visible through the paper.
Photo 3: Trace the pattern with a fine push-button pencil.
Photo 4: Cut the panels out.
Photo 5: Stabilized silk satin pieces.
Photo 6: Stay-stitch along the markings with a a short to medium length stitch (about 1.5-2mm) mm).
Photo 7: First pull off the paper from the seam allowances, holding the seam with your finger to prevent stretching the fabric.
Photo 8: Before stitching the seam of the silk velvet, press the seam allowances flat. It will make stitching the seam a lot easier.
Photo 9: Next, pull off the paper from the inside.
Photo 10: Where you have tight spaces, use the superfine, curved tweezers "Super-Pick".
Now continue sewing as usual but with more ease, since the fabric is marked securely, however difficult a fabric you are dealing with. I hope you like this hint and would love to hear from you. Just write to me at cornucopia@gildebrief.de.
The next hint will be in February!
